“What’s your work routine like?“
I spend a lot more time researching than actually writing. Writing, editing and publishing, I feel, takes less than 40% of my time, compared to the amount of time that I spend doing research.
It is far more important to talk to Subject Matter Experts, looking at papers, finding data points, and thinking about what narrative to weave, than to type away looking to fill the word count.Â
“If you could go back in time and advice yourself when you first began this job, what would you say to yourself?”
Focus on what the intention behind any project is, and not just the brief. If you’re writing a copy to help leads convert, it should have a completely different tone than a blog that’s primarily used to spread awareness about a brand/provide educational value. Understand who you’re writing for.
Also – please don’t underestimate your work, and say no to exploitative rates. Even in the age of Jarvis and ChatGPT, your expertise and skill is worth way more than what you’re giving credit for.
“What do you believe is the deeper purpose of content marketing/ digital marketing beyond driving sales?”
Depending on what your content strategy is, content can be used for a variety of different things.
Content in a pitch deck seeking for investments, sales collateral, website copy, landing page copy, ad copy, blogs, and internal forum posts all form a part of a content marketing strategy.
However, all these things are created for a different purpose, different audience, and different needs.Â
Remember, it’s not just about driving sales. It’s much, much bigger than that.
“Your piece of advice for the people interested in your profession”
Please do not use ChatGPT, or any of the AI tools as a crutch. Your writing will get worse for it. Read a lot of fiction, get into the habit of weaving narratives in mundane stuff that you see in your day-to-day life.
It’s a lot more about creating an emotional connect with the reader, than to show-off your impressive vocabulary skills that no one would understand.
